On 7th February 2020, MFF conducted a workshop on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace, with 25 staffs of Airport Authority of India at Indian Aviation Academy (IAA), Delhi.
The Airport Authority of India or AAI is a statutory body working under the ministry of civil Aviation; the Government of India is responsible for creating, upgrading, maintaining and managing civil aviation infrastructure in India. AAI organizes regular workshops on the Prevention of Sexual harassment at Workplace for their employees to generate awareness among them about the law and also for the empowerment of women for the overall development.
The workshop was conducted in the form of a group activity in which participants were given some statements to discuss. The workshop focused on demystifying the various notions attached to sexual harassment. Various definitions of the workplace, types of sexual harassment, how to report the sexual harassment incident has been discussed in detail. It also discussed the concept of consent, boundaries and appropriate &inappropriate behavior.
During the workshop, a discussion was also made on gender-based violence keeping in mind the sexual harassment of women at the workplace (prevention, prohibition, redressal) Act, 2013 and understanding the various roles and responsibilities of internal committee members in making the workplace as a conducive space.
Participants learned that some behavior has been normalized by society but in fact, if it is impacting women then it is sexual harassment. Also, victimization of the victim is a very wrong approach and all the women should come in solidarity with each other during such incidents.
