John Gaventa remembers Martha the friend

For those of us who knew Martha, our memories will not only be of her important accomplishments on behalf of global citizens – we will also remember her warmth, her wonderful Indian cooking which she tried several times to teach me (without much success, though that was no fault of hers!), her commitment to women around the world, to PRIA, to friends, to Rajesh and her children to whom she gave great love and support.

Martha would have wanted us not to lower our heads but to raise them high and keep going, to shed tears, but also laugh and keep going, and most of all to use our energies and skills, as she did, to work to make the world a better place.  That is what development is about.
