KBC youth leaders from Namunda and Titana village came together to celebrate ‘Sweet Water day’ with the community members of the Titana Village. The main objective of conducting this event was to initiate discussion on violence against women between the youth and community while drinking sweet water together.
The whole event was conceived by the youth, they took the ownership of conducting this event from arranging resources to inviting chief guests. Sarpanch, Mr.Jasbeer Chhokar and officials from District Rural Development Agencies (DRDA) were invited as the chief guest for the event. The event began with a small discussion on Kadam Badhate Chalo to define the objectivities of KBC in front of the chief guests.
PRIA Interns from University of Victoria and Jawaharlal Nehru University also participated. Cultural activities like raps and folk songs were chosen as a medium to raise awareness on the subjects like child marriage, female foeticide and other forms of violence against women
The youth leaders were appreciated by the sarpanch for their work to end violence against women/girls. Sarpanch himself took the oath to end violence against women in their village. At the end of the event, sweet water,which was prepared by the youth, was distributed to everyone. The event concluded with a signature campaign where everyone pledged to make their village violence free by signing on the Signature Banner.
